Eric Lindstrom Headshot

Eric Lindstrom enjoys writing Young Adult novels, including his debut novel Not If I See You First in 2015 followed by A Tragic Kind of Wonderful.

English publication of both in the USA is by the Poppy imprint of Little, Brown for Young Readers, and in the UK and the rest of the world by HarperCollins Children’s Books.

He has worked in the interactive entertainment industry for years as a creative director, game designer, writer, and combinations of all three. As Editor and Co-Writer for Tomb Raider: Legend he received a 2006 BAFTA nomination for Best Video Game Screenplay. As Creative Director and writer for Tomb Raider: Underworld he received a 2009 BAFTA nomination for Best Action Adventure Video Game and a 2009 Writers Guild of America (WGA) nomination for Best Writing in a Video Game.

He also raised children, which led to becoming first a school volunteer, then a substitute teacher, then a part time kindergarten teacher, then getting a credential to teach elementary school, and most importantly the discovery that Young Adult books are awesome. It’s pretty much all he ever reads, and now writes, in his house near the beach on the west coast, with his wife and, yes, cats.

Hi Eric. I’m doing a book report about your book, Not If I See You First. It’s a great book to be honest. I have to finish an Author Study about you, and I was wondering if I could just get your birthplace, people who influence you, and your current place of residence. I promise I’m not a stalker or anything because I’m only in 7th grade, going to 8th. Again, I love your book and would love it if you would publish another.

    • Eric says:

      Hi Crystle!

I was born in Southern California and moved around growing up, but just between Northern and Southern California. I now live in the San Francisco Bay Area not far from the beach. 🙂

Someone else asked me recently about influences on my FAQ page — pop over there and take a look at my answer to Teresa’s comment last week. Soon I’ll add more info to my FAQ page, but I hope for now that will tell you what you need for your report.

I’m so glad you loved Parker’s story! My next book, A Tragic Kind Of Wonderful comes out next February. I hope you like it!

Hi Eric. I’m doing a book report about your book, Not If I See You First.
This book taught me a great many things in our life.
I’m very connected terribly rules of Persons with Disabilities and in addition I am volunteering youth organizations “Krembo wings”. Integrating young people with and without special needs. I would very much like to have Parker for one day to know how it is to be blind if I can cope with difficulties.
I also connected with Parker’s character. I like that she does not give up easily on things and fighting for what she want.
Maybe I don’t have rules, but I know to set limits.
I like Parker lost someone important in my life, my grandfather.
Every day that passes, the more difficult mainly in the beginning you realize he does not come back then you have to be strong
I was very pleased to read your book and I will be happy to read the book A Tragic Kind of Wonderful.
    May Odiz from Israel.

    • Eric says:

      Hi May!
Sorry about your grandfather. Some things are too big to ever go away; they just get a bit less difficult over time.
      I’m glad you enjoyed Parker’s story. I hope you’ll like Mel’s story, too. 🙂

    Hi Eric
I am doing a book report on a tragic kind of wonderful and I loved it! Me and my friends love to read and talk about it. Can I just have your date of birth? My teacher says that you should be able to find the authors birthday but I can’t find it. I’m not a stalker, I’m only in grade 5. If you can’t give it to me it’s ok.

    • Eric says:

Hi Tessa! I’m glad you and your friends liked Mel’s story. 🙂 You haven’t been able to find my birthday because I haven’t posted it anywhere, on purpose. Show your teacher my reply here and she’ll see that you tried as hard as you could but it just couldn’t be found. Thanks!

  5. Tessa says:

Ok thanks Eric for the quick reply. I’ll tell me teacher

  6. Deniz says:

Hi,I want to know where and when you were born and why you wanted to be an author. Why did you write this book ‘A tragic kind of wonderful’? These questions I need for my school I would be happy if you answered.🙂

    • Eric says:

I was born in Duarte, California, but I moved around a lot after that, but always within California. I wanted to be an author because I love telling stories, and I wrote A Tragic Kind of Wonderful because I wanted to write a story about a girl who didn’t let other people see her true self, because she worried what they would think and how they would treat her if she did, but then circumstances reveal her secrets and she has to cope with what happens, which surprises her. That’s where it started. Thanks for writing, Deniz! 🙂

  7. Olivia says:

    Hi Eric,
I absolutely loved your book A Tragic Kind Of Wonferful! I loved how you wrote the characters and the storyline. However, Id love to know more about what happens to the characters after the book finished; will you ever write a sequel?
I look forward to your response,
    Olivia

    • Eric says:

Hi Olivia! I’m glad you liked Mel’s story. I worry about what will happen to Mel down the road, but I worry the same thing about all my characters in all my books, and others in my head who haven’t got their own book yet. I need to give others their first turn…but then, who knows? What I decide to write next isn’t always rational, so someone might get a second book sometime… 🙂 Thanks for writing!
